About coverage.chat

Who we are

coverage.chat is a general information resource for Australian small businesses. We are not an insurer, not a broker, and not a financial adviser, and we do not hold an Australian Financial Services Licence. Nothing on this site is personal advice, a quote, or a recommendation to buy a particular policy.

What we do

Most small-business owners meet business insurance for the first time at the worst possible moment — when something has gone wrong, or when a contract asks for a certificate they cannot produce. The aim here is to move that conversation earlier and make it smaller. Ask what your business does and get a plain-English walkthrough of the cover types worth considering and what each one actually responds to. The guides cover the same ground for people who would rather read.

We explain public liability, business packs, professional indemnity, tool and equipment cover, workers compensation, and cyber liability. We also explain what each one does not do, which is the part that tends to matter when a claim is declined.

How we make money

Some pages contain a referral link to BizCover, an Australian insurance comparison platform. If you use it and take out a policy, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. Referral arrangements do not influence which cover types we explain, how we explain them, or whether we recommend a cover type at all. Every page with an outbound referral link carries a disclosure notice next to it.

How the guides are put together

Where a statement depends on legislation, a government scheme, or a regulator, we cite the primary source — state work safety authorities, the regulator, or the scheme operator — rather than a summary written by someone else. Where we cannot verify a fact, we leave it out. We would rather publish fewer guides than publish something we cannot stand behind, and we label a guide as planned rather than shipping a thin one.

We do not publish premium figures. Prices move with the cycle, with the insurer, and with the state, and a number we cannot keep current is worse than no number at all. If you want pricing, ask a licensed broker.

General advice warning

coverage.chat provides general information about business insurance. We are not an insurer, broker, or financial adviser, and we do not hold an Australian Financial Services Licence. Nothing here is personal advice, a quote, or a recommendation to buy a particular policy. Read the Product Disclosure Statement and speak with a licensed broker before you decide.

Coverage Describe your business, get the cover types worth considering

Tell me what your business does, roughly how many people work in it, whether you have employees, and what you use tools or vehicles for. I will list the cover types worth considering and explain what each one actually does.
